Stephen Fry writes a great argument on how Russia’s new laws have begun extreme discrimination against the gay and lesbian communities of Russia. These laws have been passed just over a year away from the 2014 winter Olympics. I don’t believe that his comparisons of Putin’s Russia and past Hitler’s Germany are too far off. He tells of how before the German Olympics in 1936  Hitler used his power to push his people against anything Jewish. The laws put in place by Putin have upset people not just involved with the Olympics but just about anyone. Prison Break star Wentworth Miller refused to go to a film festival in Russia because of his shock at the existence of these laws. It is horrible that people are beaten, raped and teenagers pushed into suicide and having nothing be done about it. Stephen Fry’s reaction to the situation in Russia is not an overreaction. Nothing of this magnitude against human rights should be allowed to continue.
